SAMPLE

From chapter 1

‘What’s war? – you ask.

‘That’s a really hard question. I’m not even sure I can answer it. I’ll try, but, and I’ll do it by telling you about my war. Whether that’s enough you’ll have to figure out for yourself.

‘My war’s got all the war-type stuff you could ever want. It’s got guns and bombs, rockets, ships and army tanks and soldiers fighting soldiers– the sort of stuff you’d expect in any war.

‘There are cannons, too, blasting away, choppers chopping, jet planes screaming overhead – the sort of noises you’d expect in any war.

‘And my war’s got talk of bravery as well, fighting for your country and all that. There’s words like glory and honour and sacrifice – the kind of words you’d expect in any war.

‘But those things are only part of the story.’
